Comcare established specialist team of inspectors.

A specialist team of inspectors has been established by Comcare to focus on work health and safety at major infrastructure projects across Australia.

Comcare has many major projects underway within their jurisdiction, such as Sydney and Melbourne’s underground rail infrastructure. Western Sydney International Airport and Snowy Hydro 2.0 are developments in their early stages that fall in the same jurisdiction.

This new team of inspectors have experience in construction and engineering and will proactively monitor high-risk activities and safety systems on major projects nationally.

“The specialist Major Infrastructure Projects team will provide enhanced oversight and prevention-led interaction at large infrastructure and other complex construction projects,” said Justin Napier, who heads Comcare’s Regulatory Operations Group.

The team of five who’ll be based in Sydney and Melbourne will travel interstate to undertake regulatory activity in areas such as:

  • Plant and people
  • Falls from heights
  • Falling objects
  • Electrical safety
  • Silica and dust

  • Comcare will regularly review the resourcing of the unit and continue to work proactively with state and territory work health and safety regulators.
