Worker dies in a horrific accident using a power tool.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland are investigating the death of a man in a workplace-related accident at a bowling alley in Brisbane’s southwest.

The man, aged 59, was conducting construction work when he died at the scene in Richlands on Monday morning.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics attended the scene where it is understood the man was using a grinder, and either a piece of the metal grinder or a part of what he was grinding flicked off the disc and lodged in the contract builder's neck. It is believed the death was a result of extensive blood loss.

The bowling alley had been closed for renovations since May 9. Police confirmed they were called to an ‘industrial accident’.  A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Queensland to be hit with snow, frost, and heavy wind chill today.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has forecast below-average temperatures for Queenslanders today, with most of Australia experiencing a cold snap this week.

Temperatures are predicted to drop 4 - 6 degrees Celsius below average across most of the state.  Powerful wind chills and icy road conditions are expected.

Jonathan How from the Bureau of Meteorology said, 'It's really looking like a multi-state, multi-hazard event for millions of Australians - a bit of a rude shock to the system.'

Flurries of snow are anticipated to reach the Granite Belt region, where temperatures could drop 10 C below average. Stanthorpe may see snowfall tonight and Thursday morning.

'They generally only see snow every two to three years. The last significant snowfall event for northern NSW and southern Queensland was back in 2015.' said Mr How.

Further north in the tablelands west of Cairns, there could be some patchy frost while the overnight temperature in Mackay is expected to fall to 5 C on Friday morning, 8 C below average.
